This week, I had a very cool opportunity to photograph a Senior Session at the Smyrna Airport. It was a unique chance to capture the essence of a senior who holds a private pilot license and is destined for Auburn University to pursue aviation. Incorporating a senior’s passion into their photo session always adds an extra layer of depth, and this session was no exception.
But shooting in a new location like an airport definitely has its challenges, with lighting being my main concern. Avoiding harsh light is key, especially at the beginning of a session when the sun is still high in the sky. Luckily, I was right in assuming we would be able to shoot some photos in the hangars. They provided a lovely soft light that worked wonders for the portraits before the sun started to set a bit.
I’m grateful for the airport’s cooperation in allowing us to conduct the session on their premises. Their only stipulation was the removal of identifying numbers from the aircraft, a task made fairly easy with the assistance of Photoshop’s newer AI capabilities.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience capturing this senior’s passion for aviation against the backdrop of the Smyrna Airport. Best of luck to him in his future adventures at Auburn and beyond.
