Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What should we wear to family portrait sessions?
A: Visit my “What to Wear” page for tips on choosing outfits for family sessions. Feel free to email or text me photos of your clothing choices if you need help deciding!

Q: What if it rains or there is bad weather?
A: If the weather doesn’t cooperate on your session date, we have a few options to consider:

  • If it’s just cold or lightly raining, we can proceed with the session, if you are up for it. I can provide umbrellas for light rain, and I encourage you to bring cute coats, hats, or gloves.
  • We can pick the next available date that works for both of us.
  • Your home can a great option for capturing family moments in a cozy environment. This way, we won’t have to worry about the weather affecting our plans.

Q: When is the best time of day and year to schedule our family portrait session?
A: The hour before sunset usually provides the most beautiful light for portraits, but exceptions can be made if your little ones get cranky that time of day. While many clients prefer the mild temperatures of spring and fall for outdoor sessions, any season can be stunning. Winter sessions can be lovely with the right attire, and summer light is beautiful too. Ultimately, it’s about finding a time that works best for your family and your comfort level with the weather.

Q: What if my toddler won’t sit still or is shy during the photo session? Should I give up on family photos?
A: Absolutely not! Your toddler doesn’t need to sit still during the session. We’ll engage in fun activities like running, jumping, and playing to capture candid moments. If your child is shy, I’ll take the time to help them feel comfortable. Whether they want to be in your arms or explore, both scenarios are beautiful. Just let me know beforehand so I can approach the session appropriately.

Q: What types of photography do you offer?
A: I specialize in family portraits, senior sessions, lifestyle newborn photography, and events such as birthday parties. Lifestyle newborn photography captures your new baby in natural settings, emphasizing genuine moments in your home environment rather than posed setups. Please note that I do not photograph weddings or headshots, and I do not have a studio; my focus is on candid, authentic interactions in comfortable settings.
